OPPOSE THE FDA’S PROPOSAL TO BAN MENTHOL CIGARETTES

The FDA is, once again, considering a ban on menthol cigarettes. Banning menthol cigarettes will not improve public health. Instead, it will make criminals of smokers who choose menthol cigarettes.

It will create a black market, costing the federal government almost $2 billion in lost revenue and hurting small businesses–while enriching terrorist groups who will profit from the smuggling. The ban will divert law enforcement resources toward prosecuting behavior that harms no one but the individual who chooses to smoke.

Government’s resources should be focused on keeping cigarettes away from kids, facilitating the development of less-risky tobacco products, and ensuring the availability of smoking cessation products for smokers who want to quit.

Tell the FDA to stop treating adults like children.
